Bad Meets Evil Producers Tease 'Top-Secret' Eminem/ Royce Da 5'9" EP

Eminem is looking to thrill hip-hop fans once again. Earlier this week, it was announced that Shady Records will release a joint EP featuring Em himself and fellow Detroit lyricist Royce Da 5'9", under the group moniker Bad Meets Evil. But fans aren't the only ones excited about the upcoming project.

Producers Denaun Porter, Mobb Deep's Havoc, DJ Khalil and Bangladesh have all been tapped to provide beats for the project and seem to be pretty pumped for the final product, which is set to drop June 14.

"The album is dope. That's all I can tell you about it," said Porter when Mixtape Daily caught up with him at his Detroit studio. (Big Mixtape shout-out to photographer Patrick Daly.) The idea for a Bad Meets Evil EP first came about while Porter and Royce were working on Royce's solo album.

"We had one song and it turned into, 'Yo, what do you think about getting Em on this record?' " Denuan recalled. Soon, Royce and Em were bouncing ideas back and forth, and more producers were eventually brought into the fold.

Havoc, who also worked on Eminem's Recovery, submitted a number of tracks to the Shady camp, but initially had no idea what Em and Royce were cooking up. "A couple of months ago I got hit up and they told me that they're using another track for some future project," he said. "So I found out along with everybody else what it was actually for, because they like to keep things top-secret."

West Coast beatsmith DJ Khalil has been a longtime fan of the Bad Meets Evil duo and has fond memories of buying Em and Royce's first collaborative 1999 single, "Nothin' to Do." "I remember buying the 12-inch back in the day when I was DJ'in'," he said. "It's like a classic; I still have the vinyl."

Bangladesh, like Havoc, didn't learn that he was going to be on the EP until recently. "I ain't know that [Eminem] even had this beat, I didn't even know he liked the beat. I ain't know I was gonna be on this EP until probably like two weeks ago."

The producers couldn't say much in terms of song detail, but Bangladesh did confirm that his track has a vocal sample in the hook, while Havoc said his beat has an eerie feel and sounds like, "You're going down a dark hall with a whole bunch of monks just screamin' at you."

Denuan, an original member of D12 and a longtime friend and collaborator of both Em and Royce, is perhaps the most thrilled about the upcoming Bad Meets Evil project. "I was happy to see it because I thought the songs that they did back in the day was dope."

Slaughterhouse Are Working 'Slowly And Surely' On Album

'We're about seven or eight songs in,' Royce Da 5'9" tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Though Royce Da 5'9" is busy putting the finishing touches on his Bad Meets Evil EP with Eminem, the Detroit MC says that his upcoming group album with Slaughterhouse is still a priority.

"It's just something to set up Slaughterhouse anyway," Royce told MTV News about the Bad Meets Evil project. "That's our main focus right now, is Slaughterhouse and then we got Yelawolf. We're just trying to start a movement."

The group, which consists of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and, of course, Royce, first formed in 2008 after appearing on a Budden track together. In 2009, the rap quartet dropped their self-titled debut album independently on E1 (formerly Koch) then signed to Eminem's Shady Records in December 2010. Since the high-profile signing, fans of the group have been awaiting their second LP, Monster. Royce assures that Slaughterhouse is hard at work, although news broke this week that he and Eminem will be dropping a joint EP in June.

"Yeah, we're working on it slowly but surely, slowly and surely," he said of the Slaughterhouse. "They're coming here [to Detroit] for seven days starting on the 12th of May. We did the last album in six days, so sky's the limit on how much we gonna get recorded while they're here."

Royce also revealed that he and the crew already have a number of tracks recorded. "We're about seven or eight songs in. Just cutting randoms, just to see where we are at."

As of now, no release date has been set for Slaughterhouse's Monster.

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Casey Abrams' Last Showmance

The Carole King songbook results in Abrams' second elimination of the season.

This week on "American Idol," the top six sang from the Carole King songbook, but the real theme of the night was showmances: Casey and Haley! Lauren and Scotty! Lauren and ... this dude [random audience guy]! Lauren and Steven Tyler! [Clip of Steven Tyler with a little blond toddler on his lap.] Damn, girl, are you trying to audition for "The Real World" or something?

But if we're talking musical promiscuity, Casey Abrams was the real "Hi De Ho." Pianos, trumpets, saxes, harmonicas ... The only thing he didn't hook up with was a melody.

Sit, Ubu, sit! Good dog. [Footage of Casey screaming plays with the sound of the Ubu "bark" from that '80s sitcom vanity plate.]

James Durbin had his best week yet but the brightest star on "Idol" was crazy Penny Marshall. [Jim is in a blond wig and sunglasses]. She is my inspiration.

I want to be her friend, I want to be Scotty's friend, and I really want to be Haley's fu-uh-riend, too.

Yo, Randy, why don't we "turn the other cheek" to Thursday night's results show, where Jimmy Iovine gave his two cents, and Haley told him where he could shove his two cents!

[Clip: Seacrest introduces Crystal Bowersox, but then the camera cuts to a burly male harmonica player.]

Whoa, Crystal really let herself go, didn't she? But Arrested Development hasn't aged a bit! [Footage of Bruno Mars and his 45-piece backing band, who were all sitting on a couch.]

And results!

There's your fake bottom three [the last contestants standing], there's your real bottom three [Lauren, Casey and Jacob sitting on the couch from earlier in the episode].

[Jim holds out a microphone as if he's a sports reporter on the field after the Super Bowl.] Hey, Casey Abrams! You just got cut from "Idol" for the second time. What are you going to do now?

[Jim shouts in a Casey voice.] "I'm going to Creepy World!" [Footage of him grabbing girls by the back of the neck and pulling them in for a kiss during his farewell performance.]

Ding!

Paul Walker Says Brazilian People Were 'Excited' To Host 'Fast Five'

For those heading to the theaters this weekend to see the action-packed, souped-up-car-gasmic "Fast Five," there are only a few things you should know going in: The cast is teeming with members from all four previous films (Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris are all back) and the movie was filmed all over the world, including in Puerto Rico, Arizona, Georgia and California, but mainly in and around the illustrious city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — including the storied and dangerous favela districts.

When MTV News caught up with Walker, we asked him how the crew managed to get clearance to film in such tough areas.

"That's the best part about the job, is we have a VIP card," Walker said of the production's exempt status. "For most people, especially the tourists, the favela is off limits, but we got permission basically from the drug lords to come up there and film," he revealed. "We got cops with us, but everyone knows the reason we're there isn't because the cops said, 'Go ahead and come up and in'; it's the cooperation with the drug lords."

Walker said he hung out with people from the area, as did the film crew, and everyone had a great time during the shoot.

"That's one of the best aspects of my job. I'm up there hanging out, and the people are friendly and I don't have anything to worry about. People are just excited we're there," he said. "I love to travel, and that's one of those places that, on my own, I would have never have ventured, but because we're here doing this, it made it all possible."

Vanessa Hudgens 'Fell In Love' With 'Moulin Rouge'

MTV News will revisit Baz Luhrmann's 2001 movie musical Monday.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens knows the power of the movie musical. She starred in two uber-successful "High School Musical" movies and played Mimi in "Rent." So, if anyone can speak to the undeniable influence of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 movie musical masterpiece, "Moulin Rouge," it's her.

"Oh my goodness! It was just a beautiful, very specific look that I feel like everybody could completely submerge themselves into," she told MTV News about the film before Monday's upcoming "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event." "And it was fun, and it was thrilling, and your heart just went out for these characters. I fell in love with the movie, and I have not stopped watching it since."

Hudgens' "Sucker Punch" co-star Jena Malone immediately drew comparisons between "Moulin Rouge" and their equally fantastical flick, thanks to their musical scores. "It's an interesting segue because Marius [de Vries] also did the music for 'Moulin Rouge' and he did the music for 'Sucker Punch,' and he does such crazy abstractions," she said. "I mean, Baz Luhrmann's incredible."

MTV News will reunite Luhrmann, and the movie's stars, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, on Monday at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The director and actors will be joined by co-star John Leguizamo, who played artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and Catherine Martin, who won the Oscar for costume design and art direction. Hosted by MTV News' Josh Horowitz, the live stream will include special appearances and live interviews while looking back at how the film came to be and how its legacy continues to grow.

Royal Wedding Overruns Social-Media Sites

Online trackers report more activity around Will and Kate than for Japan earthquake or Egyptian uprising.
By Gil Kaufman

If Friday morning's (April 29) royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Middleton — now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — seemed inescapable on TV, clearly you weren't online before the sun came up. While every news channel was serving up hour-upon-hour of useless tidbits about what kinds of crumpets the royal couple would be snacking on, social-media sites were blowing up with all things Will and Kate.

Just hours before the wedding even kicked off, the buzz around the event surpassed the web chatter around such recent real-news events such as the earthquake in Japan or the democratic uprising in Egypt, according to trend-tracking site Mashable.

A quick peek at the Google Trends site in the hours after the blessed event found 12 of 20 top searches about the wedding or media outlets covering it, with "royal wedding coverage" dominating the list, just above #3 "Kate Middleton wedding dress."

According to Lauren Indvik at Mashable, the tech company Akamai, which measures news and discussion online, reported that the wedding was expected to serve up one of the largest-ever simultaneous audiences to watch a live stream. Akamai also reported that throughout the three hours of live coverage, there were an average of 50,000 online mentions of the phrase "royal wedding" and more than 2 million during the 24-hour period leading up to and through the end of the wedding.

The existing record for a live stream on YouTube is 10 million, for a U2 concert, and Indvik said that that record wasn't likely to be surpassed because the site didn't begin its coverage until the actual ceremony took place. "But I don't ever remember seeing all 10 trending topics on one event on Twitter before," she said of the intense interest on the micro-blogging site. Among them were #proudtobebritish, #rw11, #royalwedding, #qilf, #theykissed, #sarahburton and #gracekelly, the latter two referring to the designer of the dress Kate wore and the similarity to the one worn by the late actress/princess.

Total Twitter conversation by the end of the wedding, according to ABC, was just over 3 million tweets, and it will continue to grow throughout the day. The velocity of the conversation reached its peak at 15,000 tweets (230 tweets per second) — mostly timed around the ceremony and Kate's emergence.

Other records might have been set, but the crush of traffic took down the BBC's website, according to PaidContent.org, which predicted that good old-fashioned TV coverage would likely be the biggest source of viewership.

The social-media impact might have also been bigger if the royal family hadn't installed signal-blocking technology that put the kibosh on cell phone use during the ceremony, meaning no surreptitious tweets and photos in real time. With more than 911,000 tweets sent in the past month about the wedding, Webtrends revealed that a majority (65 percent) were coming not from England, but from the U.S. The majority of the online action before Friday was on Twitter (71 percent), with Facebook (16.9 percent) and blogs (11.3 percent) accounting for smaller shares.

According to Facebook, more than a million people in the U.K. used Facebook statuses to discuss the royal wedding in the past 24 hours, and during the wedding itself, 684,399 status updates referencing the wedding were posted in just four hours in the U.K., which averages out to 47 mentions every second. Interest was even greater in the U.S., with American Facebook users posting updates at a rate of 1.953 million to the 1.004 million from the U.K.

Among the leading topics of discussion? Soccer star David Beckham's arrival with more than 9,000 mentions in just 20 minutes. There were also 13,120 mentions of Alexander McQueen's Burton, as well as 4,264 of dress designer David Emanuel.

As for the influence of the event on the Web in terms of traffic, Mashable reported that the number was around 38.1 percent, just a smidge higher than the earthquake in Japan (37.7) and a healthy clip above the activity earlier this year around the historic changes in Egypt (24.2 percent).

The wedding also set new records on the Livestream site, which reported that its stream of the event exceeded 300,000 concurrent viewers at its 6 a.m. peak, with the company's CEO expecting "at least" 2 million unique viewers by the time the broadcast ended.

Britney Spears Has Created 'Her Own Genre,' Dr. Luke Says

Femme Fatale producer tells MTV News the pop star defies categorization because she's 'forward-thinking.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias

Britney Spears
Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images

Since Britney Spears emerged on the scene nearly a decade and a half ago, she's run the gamut of pop music: from sugary bubble-gum to dirty, sexy dance tracks. In that respect, her longtime collaborator and Femme Fatale producer Dr. Luke says that the superstar has in many respects become bigger than pop. In fact, he says it's hard to confine her to just one genre.

"I feel like Britney kind of has her own genre: If you look at songs like 'Toxic' and 'Piece of Me' and 'Oops! ... I Did It Again,' they all were sort of influential and led the way," he told MTV News on Thursday (April 28) at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards.

So when the pair sat down to work on her latest release, Dr. Luke said her pop-music shape-shifting was very much on his mind. "She wanted to keep on with that and do stuff that was forward-thinking," he continued. "So we put some dubstep stuff in there, in bridges; snuck it in different places and I hope it ended up good. I hope you like it."

It seems every time Spears drops a new album, it's declared her comeback record. But Dr. Luke noted that Brit has really never gone anywhere. "Where'd she go? I don't know. I didn't know she ever disappeared, really," he said. "She's always been selling out concerts and records, so I don't know that she ever disappeared."

So what do Spears and Luke have up their sleeve now? "Not yet ... give me a second to breathe, come up for air!" he told us.

Plus, even with Femme Fatale already in stores, it seems like the pair are always finding ways to update the songs. Take, for example, the recent remix of "Till the World Ends," which features Ke$ha (the track's songwriter) and Nicki Minaj.

"Well, we already had Ke$ha on the song 'cause she co-wrote the song ... and she sounded really good on it," Dr. Luke explained. "And then Nicki got on the Femme Fatale Tour so we put Nicki on it and it just sounded amazing. She killed it."

Which version of "Till the World Ends" do you prefer? Tell us in the comments!

Rebecca Black Says O Music Awards Had 'Great Energy'

Regardless of whether you love or loathe the music of Internet sensation Rebecca Black, the "Friday" singer was a perfect choice to host the O Music Awards Fan Army Party at Las Vegas' Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Thursday (April 28). After presenting the Fan Army FTW award to Tokio Hotel, we caught up with the viral phenom to find out what she thought of MTV's first online awards show and how she's adjusting to her newfound fame.

Although Rebecca's overnight success has garnered endless hate and even death threats in the past few months, she was overjoyed to have opportunities like hosting the O Music Awards bash.

"It was so much fun," she told us. "There was great energy everywhere, and it's awesome to see all the fans."

The Fan Army FTW award was the most personal award of the night, based solely on the love and support of an artist's fans. While the haters might be pretty loud, Black said she has just as many fans who are already talking about forming their own Rebecca Black army of support.

"I've heard someone say, 'Let's call ourselves this,' 'Let's call ourselves that,' but I don't think there's an official one," she said of her yet-unnamed fanbase.

While her fans figure it out, Rebecca said she's still adjusting to being a recognizable face in the public eye.

"It's kind of awkward, because I'll be walking and I'll have no makeup on, and I just don't look good," she laughed. "So they'll be like, 'Oh my gosh, you're Rebecca Black!' And I'm like, 'Ummm yes!' "

What should Rebecca Black's fans be called? Share your ideas in the comments!

Aziz Ansari Shares Advice For MTV Movie Awards Host Jason Sudeikis

It's official, boys and girls, "Saturday Night Live" star Jason Sudeikis is set to host the MTV Movie Awards when the show goes live June 5 from Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Who will win Golden Popcorn statues? What kind of zany antics will go down? Nobody really knows, but one guy who understands what it's like to host the show is 2010 emcee and "Parks and Recreation" star Aziz Ansari.

So, what words of wisdom does Mr. Ansari have for Sudeikis nearly 12 months after his stint? "It's so much work, so definitely have a lot of uppers on hand, like just drugs that'll get you fired up," he joked to MTV News. "PCP is good to stay up all night, get all the work done. It's a cool thing though; it's back in vogue. It's like Twitter, PCP. It's like trendy things: Twitter, PCP, Jonas Brothers."

While we're not sure he'll take Ansari's advice, Sudeikis has made it clear he hopes to do a bang-up job. "I'm sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded Movie Awards show hosting in 2011 alive," Sudeikis joked.

The MTV Movie Awards nominees — based on your votes at MovieAwards.MTV.com — will be announced Tuesday, at which point you'll be able to vote for your favorite films and stars in categories like Best Fight, Best Kiss, Biggest Badass Star, Best Villain and, of course, Best Movie. Voting will continue through June 4, though Best Movie will remain open throughout the live ceremony June 5 — meaning you'll have a chance to affect the night's biggest prize until the very last minute.

Ryan Reynolds Calls His 'Green Lantern' Character A 'Reimagining'

Star talks of the challenges of combining fanboys' wishes with his own.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern"

Ryan Reynolds knows his "Green Lantern" lore. He has committed Hal Jordan's signature oath to memory and can speak knowledgably about lesser-known characters like Bzzd. And as a devoted fan of the DC Comics series, he understands the pressure that comes along with a big-screen adaptation.

The weight of fan expectation was all the greater after the initial "Green Lantern" trailer was not exactly warmly embraced. But following the debut of fresh footage at CinemaCon last month, opinion has shifted. "I feel better," Reynolds admitted to MTV News, which is debuting a very cool character banner as part of our Summer Movie Preview week.

In a later interview, he expanded on those comments about the burden of bringing "Green Lantern" to the multiplex on June 17. "This one is particularly challenging because you want to get it right for so many people coming in with a built-in expectation," he explained. "It's one thing to do it for a film when you're inventing a character that nobody's heard of. That's great. It's another when you're reimagining a character that people have known for decades. So that's not an insignificant challenge.

"You want to come in there and bring them something that is truly memorable and is exactly what they want blended with exactly what I want, because I am the guy that's got to do it," he added. "It's exciting. There are challenges."

Yet Reynolds maintains that the film's story will be one that appeals not just to the fanboys but also to a broader audience: His Hal Jordan is an egocentric test pilot who transforms, thanks to a Green Lantern power ring, to a universe-protecting superhero. As Reynolds put it, "This is a guy that goes from a reckless, walking mishap to a guy with a higher calling, and he really rises to that occasion and experiences real humility and purpose for the first time in his life. That's a story I think a lot of people will gravitate toward."

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

Dirty Vegas Return With Electric Love, Promise To 'Never Change'

'Despite what's going on with music, the three of us are who we are whenever we come together as Dirty Vegas,' Paul Harris tells MTV News.
By Adam Stewart

A few days have gone by since we last heard from U.K. electronic trio Dirty Vegas, but after a half-decade of seeming radio silence, the boys from Britain are back with their second studio album, Electric Love, released Tuesday on Om Records.

But the guys haven't been sitting on their thumbs all this time. In fact, recording for the new album began back in 2008, when their individual side projects were put on hold, and Paul Harris, Ben Harris (no relation) and Steve Smith decided it was time to return to the studio and get back into what brought them together in the first place.

"The recording was really the easy part," Smith told MTV News. "I'd send a vocal to [Paul and Ben] in London, and they'd say, 'I don't really like it, Steve,' because I'm not in the room! We just got to the important stuff quicker. So we cut the bits out we didn't need. And the songs come together. Before we knew, it was like 30 songs in, and we were like, 'I think it's a record there now.' "

But that didn't mean the album was ready to hit shelves right away.

"It was about 18 months from literally having the 10 tracks that we liked," Paul said. "We kept changing the styles and directions all the way along, and obviously what we have finished with, we are really, really proud of."

Perfectionist as they are, the trio knew — making their first wave since "Days Go By" launched them to international fame — that they had to manage the burden of expectation appropriately. They decided to reintroduce themselves with the title cut from Electric Love.

"The three of us were in the studio, and we were thinking of the old days of rave culture that we first got brought into electronic music — before cell phones or the Internet or anything. There would be pirate radio stations telling you to meet in a certain car park and then follow directions to an illegal rave," Paul recalled, "It was that whole discovery of going out and finding that, and the character [Chad, played by Shawn Tracey] in the song [represents that]. He's not going to a VIP club, he doesn't have his cell phone. He's going out, and he's finding a doorway in an alley and it's a dark room and it's just a DJ with a sound system and the song comes from that" — and so did the music video.

The track, already painting a picture of obsession and temptation, set in a strip club and porn shop, was brought to life by video director James Golden, who dove into a fantasy world conjured up by the video's subject, including a rather interesting scene with a car battery.

"There was kind of a sexy seediness in the lyrics, and he took it to the idea of the storyboard of this character being infatuated with this girl and seeing her," Paul explained. "There's all these macho things: He's driving muscle cars, he goes to the strip club, he sees her there. But he never actually leaves his hotel room. It's a figment of his imagination, because he's fantasizing about this girl [portrayed by Jena Malone]. And we thought it suited the song quite well, actually, and we were just amazed when we saw it come back."

As dance music continues to the top here in the U.S., Dirty Vegas have made it a point to not only incorporate current sounds and trends into their new tunes, but also keep their signature style and swagger as a top priority.

"I think despite what's going on with music, the three of us are who we are whenever we come together as Dirty Vegas," Paul said. "We are going to create Dirty Vegas music. We all play instruments, we love DJing, we love going to clubs, and all of those elements are going to come together when we get together to make a record. Technology changes, the music scene changes, but Dirty Vegas still makes electronic dance music, some based with beats, and we will never change it."

Dirty Vegas have truly embraced those fluctuations with their appropriately entitled second single off the album, "Changes," a track that originally dropped in the underground back in early 2009, receiving club play and a flurry of remixes, including those by Felix Da Housecat and ATFC. The rock-infused original mix of the track is a continuation of "Electric Love," sonically and visually.

"Our character is going into changes, and it's a transitional period for him, because he's not happy with certain things in his life. And there's also a little bit of that in the song," Smith said. "And, you know, 'Changes' as a song is offering the optimism at the end; the only person that is going to change anything is yourself."

The video treatment for "Changes" again focuses on Chad's imagination, which has again gotten a bit out of control. This time, he trades a stripper for a ballerina and a muscle car for — of all things — streaking through a cornfield. On top of that, he loses his job. Needless to say, Chad is a little out there.

"The video reflects that as our character kind of realizes that he's a little bit messed up and that if he doesn't do something for himself, then no one is going to do it for him," Smith explained. "So it just makes sense in the plot of our four singles. It's not just because it's our favorite song or whatever; it's what fits."

Next on deck is "Little White Doves," with the fourth release yet to be announced.

My Chemical Romance Unsure If Killjoys Will Return In 'Bulletproof Heart' Video

Gerard Way tells MTV News Danger Days story should have 'a gap.'
By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way

When we last left the Killjoys, they were dead — gunned down at the conclusion of My Chemical Romance's video for "Sing." That clip was a continuation of the DayGlo outlaws' assault on the nefarious Better Living Industries, a campaign first launched in the "Na Na Na" video and one that's central to the theme of the band's Danger Days album.

Since the Killjoys met their untimely demise, MCR have released a J-Pop-indebted video for "Planetary (Go!)" and remained mum on plans for just where Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys would go next. Fans have been clamoring for updates, but from the sound of things, they might have to wait a bit longer.

Because while My Chemical Romance are already making plans to shoot a video for their next single, "Bulletproof Heart," they're still not sure whether the clip will pick up the story of the Killjoys, or if they're going to keep fans waiting for the next chapter.

" 'Bulletproof Heart' we're actually still talking about, and we're not definitely sure yet if it's going to go back to that world," MCR frontman Gerard Way told MTV News. "Actually, I think that's almost cooler to stretch it out as long as we can, because, again, the story is so not important. The things that happened in those videos are really just metaphors for the way we saw the world, or stuff that really happened. Everything from hanging out with this crazy kid to getting shot in the head to all this stuff, it's all metaphorical.

"I like a gap [in the story]; I think it should be a gap," he continued. "And then I think that when you do get that final part, when the right song comes along, I don't know that it'll make perfect sense. It's not supposed to."

So, yes, Way realizes fans are dying for an update on the Killjoys' condition — he's heard the complaints, after all — but he's still not sure the band will go back to California 2019 for "Bulletproof Heart." Then again, it's still early. And those complaints can be compelling.

"[The video concept] is so green right now, and we've gone through so many things," Way said. "It's really weird: People started to get disappointed. They're like, 'Aw, I thought they were making that video!' and it's like, 'Well, no, we never spent the money!' "

What would you like to see from My Chemical Romance? Sound off below!

Adele's 21 Retakes Lead On Billboard Chart

British singer tops chart for fifth time since album's release, with latest 'Glee' soundtrack debuting at #2.
By Gil Kaufman

Adele's 21
Photo: Columbia Records

She's done what such veteran acts as Britney Spears, the Foo Fighters and Chris Brown haven't been able to: hold on to the top spot. Actually, in the nine weeks Adele's 21 has been out in the U.S., the British songbird has been at #1 five different times, and will land there again next week thanks to a 65 percent uptick in sales to 153,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Whether it was an "American Idol" boost thanks to Haley Reinhart performing "Rolling in the Deep" last week or just good word-of-mouth, Adele continues to roll along, closing in on the 1.3 million mark, giving her far-and-away the best-selling album of 2011 so far.

The only debut in next week's top 10 is yet another "Glee" soundtrack, Glee: The Music Presents the Warblers, which comes in at a distant #2 on sales of 86,000. After notching their first career #1 last week, the Foo Fighters drop to #3 as sales atrophied by 69 percent to 72,000, and last week's #3 album, the comeback from bluegrass icons Alison Krauss & Union Station also sees a big (49 percent) drop-off to slip three spots to #6 (42,000).

The rest of the top 10: Disney's Lemonade Mouth (#4, 69,000), Britney Spears' Femme Fatale (#5, 45,000), Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More (#7, 39,000), Paul Simon's So Beautiful or So What (#8, 37,000), Chris Brown's F.A.M.E. (#9, 37,000) and Justin Bieber's Never Say Never — The Remixes (#10, 36,000, up 85 percent).

Katy Perry's Teenage Dream gets a boost from her "Idol" performance as well, jumping nine spots to #11 as sales were up 70 percent to 34,000. The Gorillaz's iPad album, The Fall, has a modest debut at #24 (21,000), and British pop queen Jessie J has a major comedown, as her long-awaited debut, Who You Are, plummets 31 slots in week two to #42 on sales of 13,000.

Over on the iTunes chart, Adele rules supreme as well, topping both the singles and albums tallies. No doubt also boosted by Reinhart's version on "Idol," the British songbird's smash single, "Rolling in the Deep," tops the singles chart, followed by "Idol" performer Katy Perry's "E.T.," the Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough," Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song," Lady Gaga's "Judas," Jennifer Lopez's "On the Floor," Jeremih's "Down on Me," Ke$ha's "Blow," Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now" and Tinie Tempah's "Written in the Stars."

21 sits atop the iTunes album list, beating out the "Glee" cast album, with the Foo Fighters in at #3, followed by Mumford & Sons, Lemonade Mouth, the top seven "American Idol" digital collection, Spears, Gorillaz, Rihanna's Loud and the Songs for Japan digital fundraising album.

Look for a bit of movement at the top next week with the arrival of the Beastie Boys' Hot Sauce Committee Part Two as well as new albums from the Airborne Toxic Event and Shinedown.

Mobb Deep's Havoc Recalls Def Jam Shooting In Prodigy's Book

'That's him seeing Mobb Deep's life through his eyes,' Havoc tells MTV News about P's new memoir.
By Rob Markman

While rappers Capone and Noreaga are taking exception to Prodigy's new book, "My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep's Prodigy," Havoc has come to the defense of his longtime partner in rhyme.

"That's him seeing Mobb Deep's life through his eyes," Havoc told us on Tuesday (April 26).

Last week, in an exclusive interview with MTV News, N.O.R.E. questioned Prodigy's motivation for writing about an incident in which, after N.O.R.E. was jumped by members of Mobb Deep's entourage, Noreaga shot an associate of the group's crew in retaliation. "Why would you bring up something where your man got shot?" Nore asked.

Havoc sees things differently. "Things that happened with [Prodigy] personally, that's just his spin on it, that's his take. I don't think that anybody should get emotional because that's how he sees it," he said.

Prodigy also wrote about an incident detailing how Havoc shot a Def Jam employee in the record company's Manhattan offices. While Hav hasn't read the book, he did shed light on the shooting and pretty much corroborated Prodigy's version of the story.

"Something happened where I was messing around with a gun and shot somebody by accident. Actually, he was like a manger of mine," Havoc recalled. "I believe D.M.C. [of Run-D.M.C.] was there and I had tried to bounce. Next thing you know, [A Tribe Called Quest member] Ali Shaheed Muhammad is like, 'Don't go nowhere. You gonna make it worse.' "

Hav was arrested, but later cleared of the charges after the victim testified that the shooting was an accident, according to the autobiography.

As far as whether he plans to read "My Infamous Life," Havoc said he's in no rush. "I don't really have to read the book. At some point I will, but everything in there I know. So it's just like going down memory lane."

T.I. may be locked up, but the Grand Hustle CEO is still providing inspiration for his artists from behind bars.

While gearing up to release his new album PL3DGE on Grind Time/ Grand Hustle/ SMC in May, ATL rapper Killer Mike paid a visit to MTV News and spoke about T.I.'s involvement on his new project. "He was involved as I needed him to be. If I needed him a lot, he was there a lot," he said. "If I needed him a little, he was there a little."

Before turning himself in to authorities to begin serving his latest 11-month sentence for a probation violation, T.I. spent his last few hours of freedom helping Mike film the music video for PL3DGE's first single, "Ready Set Go."

"I needed him to shoot the video before he went to jail, and instead of spending that night before he went to jail with his family, he spent it shooting a video with me," Mike said with admiration. "So, if that's any expression to how dedicated he is on helping see the artists on Grand Hustle — or associated with Grand Hustle — win, then that's it."

In fact, Mike has been so overwhelmed by Tip's support of PLE3DGE that he was nearly moved to tears. After sending T.I. an email asking about his well-being, Mike was taken aback by Tip's response. "It almost brought a tear to my eye, because when Tip hit back, the only thing he could say was that he was sorry that he's not out to help promote [the album] and push it and [that] he loves the fact that I'm finally gettin' the look I deserve and how's [Grand Hustle artist Young] Dro," Mike shared. "It's just like, you're in prison and you care more about how our tour is doin' and our songs than us feeling bad about you being in prison."

Killer went on to defend the Grand Hustle CEO, despite all his legal drama. "I know the public perceives him one way, but you just don't meet human beings who are able to surpass where they are physically in their space and care more about the happenings of other people," Mike said. "And him feeling bad that his incarceration is adversely affecting us, he's an amazing man for that."

Odd Future To Ink Deal With Sony's RED Distribution

It's no secret that Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All have been heavily courted by the music industry's major players. Through its music and live performances, the rap collective has branded itself as unpredictable, wildly creative and independent, and now there's a deal in the works to help them stay that way. On Tuesday (April 26), manager Chris Clancy confirmed to MTV News that a record deal with RED Distribution/Sony is in the works.

"It's based on getting the distribution deal we've always envisioned that allows the group to 'sign themselves' to their own company and keep their masters," Clancy told Rap Radar of the impending deal. "They will have 100 percent creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no third party participation in outside business."

Though OFWGKTA were courted by head honchos like SRC's Steve Rifkind, the group puts their independence at a premium, according to Clancy. "Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that it's in everyone's best interest to maintain the group's authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There's no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works. ... It's about to be fun ... and different."

Keep it locked on MTV News for more breaking Odd Future developments coming soon.

My Chemical Romance Call 'SING It For Japan' Response 'Overwhelming'

Charity version of 'Sing' features contributions from fans all across the globe.
By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance
Photo: MTV News

When My Chemical Romance first learned of the devastating natural disasters that struck Japan in March, they didn't wonder, "Should we help?" Instead, their first thought was "How can we help?"

"Japan has always held a special place in our hearts, really from the first time we had a show there. ... We just had such an amazing response there, and we're just such fans of the culture," MCR guitarist Ray Toro explained. "And then all of the fans we met out there, they're just so polite and there's just a really great energy over there. And we've been back there many times and have a really strong connection.

"And I think we were in London, we were watching the BBC, seeing these events unfold, and as more and more time went by, the gravity of the situation really struck everybody; it just was getting worse and worse," he continued. "And we talked about something that we could do, and at first we were thinking about writing a new song to raise money for charity. And on Twitter, something we had seen was #SINGitforjapan, and it was kids starting this Twitter feed, writing messages of hope. And that really inspired us, and we just set to work, and after a couple weeks, we were able to pull this thing together."

This thing, of course, is "SING It for Japan," a reworking of MCR's "Sing" featuring a full orchestra and a video shot during the band's ongoing tour. And, being that it was MCR's fans that served as the inspiration for the project, their artwork and inspirational messages to the people of Japan were included in the clip. All proceeds from the download of the song — or from the purchase of a "#SING It for Japan" T-Shirt — go to the Red Cross' ongoing recovery efforts in the nation.

"It was really exciting; it was a really collaborative thing. Like anybody we [asked] to be part of it wanted to give their time — all the orchestra players, they were looking for a way to help and we got in contact with them and they said, 'Absolutely,' " Toro said. "And then having kids submit video footage and drawings and pictures, it was overwhelming."

And while the contributions from their fans definitely touched them, what My Chemical Romance were most inspired by was the fact that their song was chosen to serve as a message of hope — not just for people in Japan, but for young people all over the globe. "We started to see stuff really early, with what was going on in Egypt and then Libya, like everybody was always taking this song," frontman Gerard Way said. "And we'd take notice of it, and then Ray saw this great opportunity to say, 'Well, they're doing it for that, and now they're doing it for Japan. Let's make something out of that.' "
